As
"pioneers" in the field of GIS, we need to look carefully
at the appropriate use of GIS on light weight (i.e., Windows Mobile)
devices. We are stepping into a domain that is new for us, but
not for others, e.g., mobile phone companies. The phone and internet
industries are able to serve out "stupid" maps blazingly
fast - with an intuitive interface that users require. Mobile
users have become accustomed to, and often demand, the performance
rates associated with these cached map image methodologies as
opposed to more traditional "smart" map technology.
We must ensure that our "smart" maps meet user requirements
while maintaining a high level of performance.
We've
designed GeoResults Mobile Compact to support:
- Smart phones and GPS handhelds (Windows
Mobile devices)
- Enterprises with a large number of mobile
workers requiring map interoperability,
i.e., 250 or more users
- Field operations that require precise
and accurate GPS locations, i.e., sub foot
- Field operations that require editing
of their own secure enterprise GIS data
- Enterprises that desire mobile interoperability
with both their business systems
and GIS
This
places GeoResults Mobile Compact, in a position that is
uniquely different from, say, smart phones with Google map mashups.
We believe GeoResults Mobile Compact will be the product
of choice among large enterprises needing to support "spatially
enabled" mobile operations in a consistent, reliable manner.
